Serafina
Brunelli (1659-1729), was born in Fratta (Umbertide), Umbria, Italy.
After a turbulent love story and a tumultuous experience as a convent
girl, she became nun in the Benedictine convent of Santa Caterina of
Montone.
Thanks to an extraordinary mystic vision which allowed her to
predict the future, she was counsellor of Vittorio Amedeo II of Savoia and
many other important personalities. As a friend of St. Veronica Giuliani,
she wrote a huge diary, which remained unpublished for centuries. She predicted
the decapitation of the king of France and the coming of a great
emperor.
Many of her visions seem to have taken snapshots of history from above,
ranging from squares of Revolutionary France to facts and
happenings in recent times, to things that are to come. For this reason,
Inquisitions, even approving her writings, forbid their diffusion.
These writings, garnered praise from bishops and theologists for their
depth, unfortunately the disappearance of her convent blocked the
tentative of a beatification process.
